Welcome to Fish Eagle Bay Lodge!

(+265) (0) 99 710 6282

We are now a Green, Eco Friendly Lodge making use of solar power for all our electricity needs.

Situated on the magnificent Lake Malawi, Fish Eagle Bay is a Lodge that offers simple, rustic accommodation for those seeking to get away from it all, to enjoy the wide open beaches of Nkhotakota.

We offer en-suite accommodation in white washed chalets with thatch roofs and wooden windows.  All chalets have unhindered views of the Lake.  Beds all have comfortable mosquito nets.  Fish Eagle Bay also offers wholesome food prepared in our kitchen, and some of the most friendly staff you can find anywhere!

Lake Malawi is 560km long, 80km wide and up to 700m deep, and comprises the largest part of Malawi.  Normally the water is crystal clear, and contains more indigenous and endemic varieties of fish species than any other lake in the world.  The lake is clean, and there is virtually no pollution, so that makes the fish from the lake very safe to eat.  It is quite safe to swim and enjoy the waves at our beach, as the beach is wide open with no reeds or plants to provide shelter for crocodiles and the water is sweet and normally quite warm.  Visitors spend hours playing, boating and kayaking in the water and there have never been any incidents with crocodiles or hippos at the Fish Eagle Bay beach.

Fish Eagle Bay is situated in the Central District of Malawi, close to the historical town of Nkhotakota.  It was from Nkhotakota that slaves were shipped off to Zanzibar and Mozambique, and the local name for Nkhotakota, down near the harbour is Linga, which literally means "stockade where the slaves were kept".  We are about 10km south of Nkhotakota in a village called Mbalame Village, and you need to look out for the Fish Eagle Bay sign at the Sani Trading Centre turnoff, from which we are about 6km.  There are signs which you cannot miss.

Our GPS Position is:

 13° 2.354'S

34° 19.598'E

We are away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist beat, and offer Malawi at its best.  Listen to the Fish Eagle's call and, if you are lucky, see them catch fish.  Kayak or sail on the lake and experience the tranquility of Nature.  Get to know the real Warm Heart of Africa by staying in a quiet village where the people are friendly and you are most welcome.

Support the local population by eating fresh fish caught in the lake (weather permitting), and fresh vegetables bought at the market in Nkhotakota or grown by our neighbors.

Your presence will have a positive influence on the lives of many in the surrounding villages, and enable many children to attend school and create a better future.
